Southern Shots is a friendly, competitive club that plays every Sunday from 8:00–10:00am at the Auckland Badminton Association courts in Epsom. You don’t need a membership, a partner, or a club history — casual players are welcome every week for $20.

What a Sunday session is actually like

Doors are at 8:00am and we play through to 10:00am. Arrive a few minutes early to warm up — sessions run rain or shine, which in an indoor hall means always.

Games are doubles, and we mix them for you rather than leaving you to find a court. Players are graded from level 4 to level 9, and the mixing aims to put you against people around your own standard. That is the part most people notice first: you get real games, not a morning of walkovers in either direction.

Every game is recorded, so your results, win rate and level progression build up over the season. Members can see all of it in the member portal. If you just want a hit on a Sunday, you can happily ignore that side of it.

What to bring

A badminton racket
Bring your own — we supply shuttles, not racquets.
Non-marking court shoes
Required on the courts. Street shoes mark the floor.
A water bottle
Two hours of doubles is more running than people expect.
Comfortable sportswear
No dress code beyond that.

Most people start casual. It needs no commitment and you can stop whenever you like.

Casual — $20 per session

Start here

Drop in any Sunday. Register in advance to hold your spot, pay by bank transfer and upload your receipt — the form walks you through it. No commitment, all levels.

Casual Plus — $140 for 8 sessions

Eight consecutive Sundays at $17.50 a visit, with a guaranteed spot each week plus skill tracking and member portal access. Worth it once you know you’re coming back. Get in touch to arrange one.

Annual membership — $350

Currently full

The full season from 1 April, with every Sunday included. Membership is full at the moment and new spots open each April — you can join the waitlist at no cost, and play casual in the meantime.

Common questions

Can I just turn up on Sunday?

Register first — spots are limited by court availability and we can fill up. Registering takes a minute and confirms your place for that Sunday.

I have never played properly. Is this for me?

Yes. We run levels 4 through 9 and mix games so you play people around your standard. You will not spend the morning being hit off the court, and you will not be the only newcomer.

Do I need to be a member?

No. Casual players are welcome every week at $20 a session. Annual membership is a separate thing — and currently full.

Do I need to bring a partner?

No. Games are mixed on the day, so turning up alone is completely normal.
